Board of Christian Education

The purpose of the Board of Christian Education [BOCE] is provide religious education to EBC and to provide the biblical teachings that will both enlighten and form the foundation of Christian living.

Membership is open to all members who would like to teach and/or support the teaching of the congregation in bible study and life lessons.

Under the aegis of the BOCE

  • Sunday School | 9am Sunday morning

  • New Members Class | 9am Sunday morning

  • Youth Bible Study | 6:30pm Tuesday evening

  • Vacation Bible School | 9am-noon one week in June/July | TBD

Church Chorus/Inspirational Mass Choir

The Chorus/Choir sings traditional and contemporary music to bring souls to Christ and to evangelize through a variety of music that communicates the gospel of Jesus Christ through song.  Its purpose is to prepare hearts, minds, and spirits to embrace the Word and to answer God's call to faithful and obedient stewardship and service.

The Chorus/Choir sings first and third Sundays during morning worship and as requested.

Membership | open to all church members who feel encouraged to sing.

Rehearsals   | Thursdays at 7:30pm

Dance Ministry

The purpose of the Dance Ministry is to evangelize and praise God through dance while bringing souls to Christ. To view an EBC Women's Day Dance choreographed for varied ages, click DANCE

Membership | open to all members who desire to praise God through dance.

Rehearsals | scheduled when Dance Ministry is requested to serve.

Deacon Board

The Deacon Board's primary purpose is to assist the Pastor in all spiritual matters of the church.  The specific charges are to assist in serving communion, to visit sick and shut-in members, to assist with homegoing services, to administer the benevolence fund, and to assist the various church ministries.

Meetings | Second Tuesday each month at 7:30pm & quarterly with the Trustee Board

Deaconess Board

The purpose of the Deaconess Board is to prepare for the service of Holy Communion, visit the sick and shut-in, support the Mother Board, minister during Mother's Day and Officers' Day worship services; and to be prepared when needed at worship services, and to cooperate with Deacons in performance of duties.  The Deaconess Board also is charged with matters pertaining to the spiritual welfare and benevolent concerns of female members of the congregation.

Meetings | once a month on the Saturday before first Sunday | 11am

Eddie Wilson Male Chorus [EWMC]

The EWMC sings to bring souls to Christ and to evangelize

through a variety of music that communicates the gospel of

Jesus Christ through song.  Its purpose is to prepare hearts,

minds, and spirits to embrace the Word and to answer God's

call to faithful and obedient stewardship and service.  The

Eddie Wilson Male Chorus sings 4th Sunday during morning

worship and as requested.

Membership | open to all male church members who feel

                      encouraged to sing.

Rehearsals   | Tuesdays & Thursdays before fourth Sunday

                       at 7:30pm

Historical Highlights

  • 1948  | Julia Henderson first President

  • 1979  | First Back to School Workshop

  • 1980  | Purchased glass and completed the church's artifacts case

  • 1981  | Youth began participation in service during Black History Month

  • 1981  | Education Day spearheaded by Vivian Smith and Martha Wilson started

  • 1981  | Re-etched the church's cornerstone

  • 2012  | Developed reusable bulletin to address EBC's concern for the environment

  • 2013  | Celebrated the 102nd birthday with Mother Martha Wilson who was EBC's oldest member at that time [Mother Wilson pictured above in green]

  • 2013  | First annual "Warm Up Our Community", an outerwear distribution project held on MLK Day of Service

  • 2014  | Celebrated the 103rd birthday with Mother Martha Wilson

 

The Education Club promotes the academic education of the youth for improvement and development of their capabilities and skills and enhances the education of the congregation.  The club seeks to accomplish our purpose by recognizing and celebrating the accomplishments of EBC's children, by supporting educational endeavors, and by awarding the Beacon of Light Scholarship to qualified members.

Membership  |  All members who are interested in enhancing the education of the youth and congregation are eligible.

Meetings       |  The Education Club meets at the church on the first Monday of each month at 6:30pm

 

Feed My Sheep Ministry [SOUP KITCHEN]

The purpose of the EBC "Feed My Sheep Ministry" is to serve meals to the homeless, the needy and the sick and shut-in, and to provide clothing, food, and other services whenever possible. For more information about the Soup Kitchen, click on SOUP KITCHEN.

 

Serving Time:  Tuesday, 11am to 12:30pm in Ebenezer Fellowship Hall.

 

Membership | Volunteers from church membership and the community-at-large

Volunteer Meetings | Once per month at 1:15pm on Tuesday

Volunteer Hours | Anytime Tuesday between 6am and 2pm

Floral Ministry

The Floral Ministry is responsible for enhancing the beauty of the church by placing floral arrangements and other decorative artifacts on display for the season and on special occasions, such as, Communion Sunday, Black History Month, Mother's Day, Easter Sunday, and Christmas, and other special events as requested. The Floral Ministry also coördinates donations for commemorative and/or monetary gifts.

  • Membership is open to all adult members and youth age 13 and older

  • Meetings are held quarterly

 

Hospitality Club

Share with the Lord’s people who are in need.

The Hospitality Club serves as official hosts and hostesses of the church.  Its members officially welcome visitors at the morning service every Sunday.  Its members also prepares and serves meals at church-wide functions and at other times when requested.  Membership is open to all adult members and youth 13 and older who have a willingness to serve others.

 

Meetings are called as needed.

 

Mass Choir

The Mass Choir, comprised of all choir members, sings to bring souls to Christ and to evangelize through a variety of music that communicates the gospel of Jesus Christ through song.  Its purpose is to prepare hearts, minds, and spirits to embrace the Word and to answer God's call to faithful and obedient stewardship and service.

The Choir sings fifth Sundays during morning worship and as requested.

Rehearsals   | 7:30pm, Thursdays before the fifth Sunday

Missionary Society

"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen."  |  Matthew 28:19-20

The goal of the Missionary Society is to further the mission of Jesus Christ both locally and globally.  This society accomplishes its purpose through the prayerful and financial support of global missions to address the needs of those in distress.  Demonstrating the love of Jesus Christ, the Missionary Society also reaches out to the sick and shut-in with intercessory prayer, financial aid, and/or food.

Meetings  |  Meetings are held every 4th Saturday of the month at noon.  There are no meetings in July, August, November, and December.

Membership  |  All members including children are eligible to join.

 

Music Ministry

The purpose of the Music Ministry is to provide a platform to coordinate programming, special functions, and issues and resolutions within the music department.

 

  • Membership  |  Pastor, Deacon Board Chairman, Trustee Board Chairman, Choir Presidents, Musicians, Director(s), two congregation members-at-large

  • Meetings  |  Quarterly

Nurse's Unit

The Nurse's Unit provides appropriate support for the Pastor, ministerial staff, church family, and visitors.  The members provide care/support to persons who require immediate assistance until First Responders [EMT/911] are notified and arrives.  A member of the Nurse's Unit remains with the distressed persons and accompanies the person to the hospital, when/if needed.

Membership is open to all EBC members

Pastor's Aid Society

The purpose of the Pastor's Aid Society is to provide supportive services to the Pastor and his family throughout the year.

Meetings  |  Every third Saturday at 10am at the church

​Senior Resource Ministry

The purpose of the Senior Resource Ministry is to provide information, guidance, and referrals as needed for Ebenezer Baptist Church seniors and friends age fifty and above.  The goal is to educate our seniors on beneficial programs and policies, as well as encourage them to feel comfortable in sharing relevant and personal information.

Membership  |  Members are appointed by the Joint Boards

Meetings  |  Held quarterly starting in January

 

Transportation Ministry

This ministry coordinates and provides transportation to and from church services and other activities.  It is headed by a Coordinator who is a member of Ebenezer who is able to organize logistics of transportation.  Drivers are also needed for this ministry.  The appointment of the Coordinator and drivers must be approved by the Trustee Board.

Trustee Board

The Board of Trustees is charged with enabling the mission of the church by managing and and maintaining the church's finances, existing buildings, equipment, and properties as well as by securing and/or developing facilities for future church needs. 

Membership  |  Membership is open to adult members of EBC who have an appreciation for dealing with finance and the work of the trustees.

Meetings  |  Held at the church on the second Monday of each month at 7:30pm; and quarterly with the deacons at a joint board meeting

 

Usher Board | Junior

"For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand.  I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God,than to dwell in the tents of wickedness."  |  Psalm 84:10

The purpose of the Usher Board is to greet and seat the congregation in a loving and Christian manner, to follow the order and continuity of the worship service, and to assist the congregation.  Duties include distributing bulletins, fans, information, and collecting tithes and offerings.  The Junior Usher Board members are "Ushers-in-training" who "learn by doing" the Usher Board work of the church.

The Youth Fellowship Choir sings youth-oriented music to bring souls to Christ and to evangelize through a variety of music that communicates the gospel of Jesus Christ through song.  Its purpose is to prepare hearts, minds, and spirits to embrace the Word and to answer God's call to faithful and obedient stewardship and service.

Membership  |  All youth are encouraged to sing in the Youth fellowship choir.  Members participate in the Mass Choir.

  • Cherub Choir

    • The Cherub Choir was established in 1994 by Mrs. Margaret Hammond. In her work with the Helen Joseph Nursery and Extended Sunday School, Mother Hammond encouraged and taught music to children ages 2 to 7 years.

Youth Ministry

The purpose of the Youth Ministry is to encourage Christian discipleship and enhance Christian living by helping youth grow toward a vibrant and relevant relationship with God through Jesus Christ.  The Youth Ministry's goal is to develop Christian character by teaching young people who they are in Christ through biblical studies; and by demonstrating ways to personally accept and keep the Word of God daily in their lives.  The Youth Ministry accomplishes this through teaching, training, and worshiping, to include activities within the Christian community and the community-at-large.

This ministry is available to young people in elementary school through high school.
